Acquiring Work Experience While In School
Internship opportunities are provided by Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to high school students, undergraduate students and graduate students at the University of the Virgin Islands. The internships provided are designed to give current students an opportunity to work alongside the top scientist and cyber leaders this nation has to offer. Student interns will apply concepts, protocols and tools to real world problems.

Student Internship Opportunities
Sandia National Laboratories
With over 60 years of experience, Sandia National Laboratories is operated and managed by Sandia Corporation. As a contractor of the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration(NNSA), Sandia National Laboratories support numerous federal, state and local government agencies, companies and organizations.
General Program Requirements:
- Full-time enrollment status at an accredited school year
- Undergraduate equivalent of 12 credit hours/semester
- Graduates equivalent of 9 credit hours/semester
- Cumulative GPA Academic Standards
- 3.2 GPA for undergraduate technical and business assignments
- 3.5 GPA for graduate professional technical and business assignments
- Ability to obtain a Department of Energy security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship
- Be at least 16 years of age

Los Alamos National Laboratory
Los Alamos National Laboratory was founded more than 60 years ago and has since hosted students at various levels of their education. This educational program is designed to complement the students’ education with work experience related to their chosen field of study.
Undergraduate Program Requirements:
- Provide documentation of acceptance in an undergraduate program
- Enroll in successfully complete a minimum of 12 undergraduate credit hours per semester
- Initially have and maintain cumulative 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA
- Laboratory requires successful applicant to complete a pre-employment drug test

- Provide documentation of acceptance in a graduate program
- Enroll in and successfully complete a minimum of six graduate credit hours per semester
- Initially have and maintain cumulative 3.2 out of 4.0 GPA

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
Since 1952 Lawrence Livermore National Lab internship program, Computation, offers undergraduates and graduate students an opportunity to gain research experience through a stimulating work environment that deals with real-world problems. The Student Internship Program allows students to engage in work-study employment opportunities in relevant science, engineering, and administrative fields. Summer assignments are approximately for three months and will also be based on the availability of the student’s summer or academic break.
General Program Requirements:
- Students must be enrolled and in good academic standing at an accredited institution, or have been accepted to begin an undergraduate or graduate program, prior to commencing employment.
- Students must be able to successfully meet the hiring requirements. (e.g. pre-employment drug testing, approval for site access, etc.)
- U. S. Citizenship is required for some positions. Foreign National students may apply based on job requirements.
